Golden Towers

"Kay!" Pricket piped up, slumping against the nearest wall. "Whatever..." he moaned.

"Pfft, you whine a lot!" Dem called out. She continued walking. "Start whistling or something!"

Heeding her advice, he began to whistle a soft, playful sort of tune.

"Ooo, where'd you learn that?" Dem asked, finding herself in another dead end.

"What, my tune?" he asked, pausing.

"Yes!" Dem added excitedly, drawing closer to his voice.

He continued humming. "Well... it was a while back, back with the Mutants -- you wouldn't believe how festive we could get -- and it was a bit of a war-like song. Gruesome were the words and lyrics, not poetic-like at the very least, but I liked the melody so I just picked it up and began humming it when I could. Nobody minded, either, so..." he trailed off, humming louder, breaking into a whistle.

Dem giggled. Mutants festive?! She thought. She suddenly found herself in front of another wall, but the humming had grown loud and more defined where she now stood.
"I think I might have to break the wall down...," She noted with a tad bit of annoyance.

Pricket turned his head to his right, stopping his humming. Apparently now a steel -- or some type of strong metal -- now stood between him and Dem.

"I would suggest you stand back...," She told him.

With an invisible nod (to Dem, anyway), he inched away from the wall to around the next bend.

Dem pulled back her fist and squinted her eyes shut, preparing herself for the punch.

Pricket peered around the corner, waiting for the big moment.

Dem smashed her hand into the metal. "Ow!" She whined, grasping her hand. She felt the pain as her bones replaced themselves. She winced. "No good. You're going to have to get me really emotional!" She told Pricket.

"Emotional?" he answered, confused. "How can I make you emotional? I'm no... er... well, I'm not exactly 'the bully' or anything of the sort to rouse anger..."

"Just say something mean! Tell me I'm ugly!" Dem hissed, desperate to be reunited with someone that she was even slightly familiar with.

"Um... you're ugly?" he piped up, inching back to around the bend.

Dem gave a small sniff and started to shake. "Why. Are. Boys. So. Mean!" She screamed, hitting the wall with such force that it punched all the way through.

Pricket gaped his mouth wiiide open. Fer crying out loud, he had even said it with a tone where you KNEW he didn't mean it! He had half a mind to crawl over and whmper, but he stood his ground. Not daring to leave the protection of his little corner, he continued peering around, waiting for some black figure that was Dem to come out of the slowly dissipating dust.

The dust cleared, and Dem coughed a little but smiled. "Hallo!" She beamed happily.

Pricket shot her a surprised look. "H-hello..." he stammered.

"Hi!" She piped, skipping up to him. "Perhaps we should go find Tandra now." She suggested.

He wanted to sweat drop. "S-sure..."

Dem smiled and grabbed Pricket's arm, walking to Irk knows where.

"Where are we going?" he piped up, trying to place his footing so she wouldn't be dragging him everywhere.

"Um..," Dem stopped. "Good question."

"Where have they taken Tandra?"

"I dunno." Dem shrugged.

Tandra watched Kale leave. She fished a communicator from her pocket and whispered frantically into it; "Guys! Where are you? Listen, Pricket, you have to hide. Make yourself safe! He's coming after you now, so be careful." She hid it again as someone walked past the door.

Dem's antennas perked at the transmission. "Change of plans!" She told Pricket. "We have to hide you!"

Pricket's antenna drooped. "What? Why?"

"I just received a message. Apparently our friend has been captured and the ones who took her are now looking for you."

Just then heavy footsteps could be heard, and hushed orders.

The had-been Mutant flattened his antenna. He hushed his voice to a meager whisper. "They probably work for the empire... and if not they probably want me as some sort of test subject." His glance trailed down the hall then whipped back up to Dem's face. "Where do you plan to hide me?

Dem blinked. "Ummm....." She tried her best to think of a good idea, even resorting to hit herself on the head with her fists but none came. "Perhaps," She said, between punching her already well beaten head, "we should just flee?"

Fleeing would have been a good idea, particularly as someone began shooting lasers at the two of them.

Pricket let out a faint cry, barely dodging one shot while another grazed his cheek. It burned and sizzled. "Come!" he yelped, grabbing Dem by the forearm and pulling her to the side, out of the way of any more incoming shots.

Dem swerved around, taking out a laser of her own. She began to shoot hectically while running, which, if you have ever tried, is a rather hard thing to do.
"Irk, why do they always find us?! Well, more of you. Why do the always find you?" She narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

"W-well, I..." he trailed off, taking heavy gasps of air every five seconds or so. "I dunno." His tone of voice sounded very... very much like he was lying.

Dem sensed this. "Are you positive?" She asked. "Cause if you're lying I'm gonna stop running and let them shoot me." She looked serious.

"I would say I work for them," he gasped, "But that's not true so..." he lowered his voice to muttering. "... It might be those trackers I swallowed last week..." He coughed intentionally. "They have their ways, you of all people should know that."

Dem nodded and smiled, happy that she got a truthful answer. She pressed the button on her communicator. "Where are you, Tandra?" She asked via transmission.

"I'm here," Tandra affirmed. "I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I've gotta lie low until they think I'm not a security risk so I can escape. You guys okay?"

"I guess..., being chased by a herd of robots is ok, right?" Dem asked.
